Linear switches: smoothness
A linear switch travels down in a single motion, with no bump or click. Typing feels smooth and consistent, with a deeper, muted sound often called a “thock”.
It is the ideal choice if you like fast, quiet keystrokes. In the configurator, it is the “Creamy” option.
Tactile switches: feedback under your finger
A tactile switch has a small bump at the moment the key actuates. You feel the keystroke without having to press the key all the way down.
They suit people who type a lot and want precise feedback without a clicking noise.
Clicky switches: sound on purpose
A clicky switch adds a crisp, high-pitched click to the tactile bump. Every keystroke is very present, both to the touch and to the ear.
Perfect for the joy of typing… a little less so in an open-plan office or on a video call.
Silent switches: discretion
Silent switches are dampened to reduce typing noise. They suit shared offices, late evenings and flats where you can hear everything.
Listen before you choose
In the Clavhello configurator, each switch type plays in one click, and you can even type on your own keyboard to hear it. The sounds are a simulation that gives a good idea of each switch’s character.
Frequently asked questions
Which switch for typing all day?
Tactile switches are a great compromise: precise feedback without a loud click. If you prefer smoothness, a linear switch is also very pleasant.
Which switch for an open-plan office?
Choose silent switches, or linear ones as a fallback. Avoid clicky switches, which are the loudest.
